Power Generation Specialist Certificate
This certificate program must be completed in a two year period. Each course is held twice a year. Once in the fall term & once in the winter term. One or two courses can be taken per term.
This certificate program is designed for individuals who would like to gain an in-depth understanding of all types of power generating plants including all types of steam power plants, gas turbines, co-generation and combined cycles plants, solar and wind farms, and ultra supercritical power plants. The design, operation, systems, equipment, maintenance, economics, and environmental emissions of all types of power plants will be discussed in detail. The courses of this certificate provide a thorough understanding of all the equipment and systems used in all types of power plants including steam, gas, and wind turbines, electric generators, transformers, steam generators, condensers, feedwater heaters, inverters, pumps, compressors, combustors, ejectors, deareators, governing systems, environmental emission control systems, and protective systems etc. All the instrumentation and control systems, economics as well as all the calculations used in all types of power generating plants will also covered in detail. The delegates who complete this certificate will be able to design, select, commission, operate, diagnose, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and refurbish all types of power generating plants. They will also be able to perform most design calculations associated with these plants, increase the reliability and profitability of various types of power generating plants as well as minimize their operating and maintenance cost. This certificate will provide employers with assurance that the delegate has the necessary skills and competence in order to perform high-quality work in any type of power plants. The certificate will also significantly enhance the skills and competence of all power generating plant workers and the employability and marketability of each delegate in today’s competitive market. The delegates will have to complete a multiple-choice exam at the end of each seminar and obtain a minimum passing grade of 60%. There are no prerequisites for this certificate. The material covered in the seminars is designed for delegates who do not have prior knowledge or background in power generating stations.
