Description:
As a prerequisite for registration with APEGGA, Engineering, Geologists, and Geophysicists graduates and other first time applicants are required to successfully complete an examination on the topics of professional practice, ethics and law to be able to practice their profession in Canada.
This workshop is intended as a review course with mock exams to prepare one's self for the NPPE.

Day I:
Professional Engineering Practice and Ethics
This day-long workshop will help participants preparing to write in general areas of Engineering Practice and Ethics of the Professional Practice Exam (NPPE). This workshop will focus on:
- The definition of professional engineering;
- The role of the association & the responsibilities associated with self governance
- Professional accountability, conduct and ethics, the P.Eng.s responsibility to the public & duty to report illegal or unethical engineering practice
- The ethical use of the engineer's seal
- Continuing competence
- The social and environmental impacts of engineering on society

Day II:
Law for Professional Engineers
This day-long workshop will summarize and simplify the fundamentals of professional Engineering law and will help participants preparing to write the Professional Practice Exam (NPPE). This workshop will focus on:
- The basic structure of the Canadian legal system
- Tort law, liability and issues
- Business organizations
- Contract law
- Specifications & tendering
- Discharge & breach of contract
- Bonding, estoppel & construction lien legislation
- Intellectual property, patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs
- Professional advertising
- Dispute resolution, negotiation, arbitration; litigation
- The engineer as expert witness

Special Features:
At the end of the two day workshop, you will write a mock exam and get it marked before you go home with your results in hand.
