Daily Schedule:
8:00am - Registration and coffee (1st day only)
8:30am - Session begins
5:00pm - Adjournment
Breakfast, two refreshment breaks and lunch are provided daily.

Description
The course covers principles of reliability, failure rate and its relation to reliability, probability distribution of the time to failure, exponential and Weibull distributions, reliability of systems, series and parallel systems, stand by redundancy, systems mean time to failure, mean residual life, reliability in design. It also includes failure tree analysis, and applications of Monte Carlo simulation.

Objectives
To provide engineers with practical tools of reliability analysis necessary for integrity management and maintenance programs. Nevertheless, the concepts of reliability based design (RBD) and reliability-based inspection (RBI) will be introduced.
To introduce effective methods to represents failure scenarios of complicated systems.

Target Audience
The course is intended to present the reliability engineering techniques in a ubiquitous environment to practical mechanical, electrical and civil engineers. Target industries includes (but not limited to): Oil & Gas, Manufacturing and Engineering management and consultancy.

Instructor

Sherif S. Hassanien, M.Sc., Ph.D, P.Eng.

Dr. Hassanien has over eighteen years of experience in fields of: structural analysis & design, reliability analysis & risk assessment, statistical analysis, and finite element modeling/analysis. He gained his industrial and R&D experience through his integration at SNC-LAVALIN, C-FER Technologies, Trow Global and engineering consulting services in Canada and Internationally.

He received his PhD from the University of Calgary, Alberta, where he developed a state-of-the-art research in life cycle cost optimization for structural systems. Dr. Hassanien has over twenty five technical publications in the area of structural reliability, reliability-based design/analysis and probabilistic structural optimization.

Dr. Hassanien is a key researcher for developing/conducting reliability based design, reliability and risk assessment of pipeline and power systems. He was a key researcher for re-calibrating load factors of CSA S471. He developed load resistance factor design (LRFD) approaches for several high-end and complicated structural systems (protective structures, mines, high rise buildings, transmission lines, pipelines systems). He is a developer of numerical and mathematical algorithms for engineering software adopting probabilistic approaches. In addition, he served as a project manager and lead designer for several unique and complex structural projects Globally

Dr. Hassanien has an extensive teaching experience in Canada and the Middle East through the University of Calgary, Military Technical College, and Arab Academy for Science and Technology. He delivered / administrated courses in engineering statistics, structural safety, reliability engineering, structural analysis and design (reinforced concrete and steel structures) and probabilistic risk assessment. He is a certified disaster risk management lecturer at the World Bank institute (WBI).

Dr. Hassanien is a member in different professional societies such as APEGGA, ASEM, CSCE, ASCE, ASQ and SRE. He is also a reviewer for the Canadian Journal for Civil Engineering.
