Description
Six Sigma is a business/project management strategy widely used in many sectors of industry. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of process outputs by identifying and removing the causes of defects (errors) and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. DMAIC is a project execution methodology aimed at improving an existing technical or business process. Lean Six Sigma is a cooperative managerial concept of Lean and Six Sigma that results in the elimination of wastes and improving the value stream.

Objective
The objective of this course is to know how to apply Six Sigma methodologies to the chemical and related industries. Also, to apply the DMAIC project roadmap, Lean, as well as to use the Six Sigma work process and statistical toolbox. 

Target Audience
This course is directed to the Chemical industry as well as related industries. It is suitable for engineers, technologist and technicians in the chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas industries.

Instructor
George Liebermann, Ph.D., P. Eng., FCAE

Dr. George Liebermann has retired from Xerox Research Centre of Canada (XRCC) in 2011 where he was most recently Senior Engineering Fellow and Black Belt for Xerox Lean Six Sigma. He joined XRCC in 1981 and has held a variety of senior technical and managerial positions at XRCC, including Manager, Pilot Chemical Engineering; Manager, Process Engineering Area; and Manager, Materials Integration Laboratory.

George is a Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).  He was the founding Chair of the Process Development Group/Division of AIChE. He was the Chair of the Executive Board of Programming Committee (EBPC) of AIChE in 2004 and of the AIChE Chemical Engineering Technical Council (CTOC) in 2008. George is the recipient of the 2006 AIChE Process Development Practice Award and of the 2009 George Lappin Service Award for AIChE.
 
George is also a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and of the Canadian Society for Chemical Engineering, and member of Professional Engineers Ontario.  He received the
Ontario Professional Engineers “Engineering Excellence” Award in 2007.

George received his doctorate degree in Chemical Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute Timisoara, Romania. He started his career in the chemical industry at the Petrochemical Plant Solventul, Timisoara, Romania in 1968 as research and development engineer. After a short stint at Hydrophilics, Haifa, Israel, he was a process development engineer for several years at Uniroyal Chemical, Elmira, Ontario, Canada before joining Xerox in 1981.
